New zone "Poison" opens on Wednesday, March 18th!

From "scary" to "amazing": Rediscovering poison as a "unique characteristic"

At NIFREL, a new zone called "Poison" will open on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, focusing on the diverse abilities (skills) of creatures that possess "poison."

Instead of viewing "poison" as something scary or dangerous, we'll reinterpret it as a "unique characteristic" that living things have acquired to survive, and develop a new interactive exhibit that allows visitors to experience the evolutionary wisdom that poison brings. The

bright and pop spatial design, themed around "the diversity of poison," will provide visitors with an experience that will completely shift their perspective from "scary" to "amazing! cool!"

The spatial design will be handled by minna, the design team whose fun and creative work was well-received at the special exhibition "You're a Fun Creature Too!" held at NIFREL from 2024 to 2025. They will express a diverse range of "poison" in a total way, from graphics to spatial design.

The café on the second floor of the museum will be offering original food menus themed around "poison"! Original merchandise will also be available for purchase at the museum shop.

A total of 33 species and 230 specimens of poisonous creatures, including fish, reptiles, and amphibians, will be exhibited in 18 aquariums.

● Original Cafe Menu
At the picnic cafe "EAT EAT EAT" on the second floor of the building, a new "Poison" menu will be available! They will be selling a set of fried chicken and french fries made with luxurious pufferfish meat, a jellyfish-themed drink that changes color when you add lemon juice from a dropper and offers a variety of colors and textures, and a hot dog that represents the sea anemone, the "home" of the clownfish, with sweet potato paste.

● Original Goods 
At the museum shop "NIFREL×NIFREL", new products commemorating the opening of "Poison" will also be available! The "DOKUDOKU T-shirt," which features a pop design of the diverse colors, shapes, and movements of poisonous creatures, will be available in two sizes each for adults and kids. Matching outfits for the whole family are also recommended. In addition, the popular "NIFREL Notebook," where you complete an illustrated encyclopedia by placing stickers while searching for creatures in the building, will be powered up with the addition of the new zone "Poison". Fosters your child's curiosity.
